Gum is a hardwood. Slow burning, maximum heat output. Suited to both open fires and log burners. A softwood or kindling should be used to start your fire and a medium or soft wood should be used with gum once a good fire is established. Gum will absorb rain and this should be considered when purchasing during winter.
Douglas-Fir is a medium-density firewood with good heat output and a reasonably long burn time. It’s easy to start the fire with and a clean burning wood which is good for our environment. It has a unique ability to shed rain, this makes it suitable for purchasing and burning during long wet seasons. Suitable for both open fires and log burners.

This is our premium mix and a personal favourite.
Start the fire with our clean burning Douglas-Fir which lights easily from a cold fire. Once the fire-bed is glowing red with embers, mix burn both woods during the day. At night fill the fire with Gum which will keep your home cosy long into the night.
Ash should be cleaned from firebox every 3-5 weeks. Once cool – most fruit trees love it as mulch.
Make sure your firebox and flue are cleaned and inspected each year for your firewood to work efficiently.
